Agriculture Reforms in India
Most people who recently acquaint with me have known my work related to promoting public policy and liberal reforms through educational and outreach activities and my participation in international conferences and seminars. Prior to 2015, I was Primarily worked as a Grassroots activist for various Grossroot causes such as the Anti-corruption movement, Farmers movement, Lok Satta movement, Youth empowerment and Student Activism.
Among all, the Anti-corruption movement and agricultural reforms have been closest to my heart as it has a direct connection to my family and middle class. In 2012, I was very fortunate to be part of a significant event for Improving choice and freedom to farmers where they can sell theirs produces. Under the leadership of Dr.JP Narayan of Lok Satta and The Federation of Independent Farmers’ Associations (FIFA), Hundreds of farmers did take part in a 40-kilo meeter’s long foot march from Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh) to Karnataka and Nizamabad district in Telangana to Nanded district in Maharashtra to assert farmers’ right to sell paddy and rice outside the State.

This significant event led to a change in the policy of the state government within 15 days and gave choice to farmers to sell theirs produces in other states. This small policy change not only the price went up to Approx 4000 crores per one season for one crop but also increased the incomes of farming communities significantly. This also sets an example for policymakers on how giving more choice to farmers can be beneficial to agriculture.
